How LocalFocus.news and the LocalFocus mobile reader handle information. Last updated: October 2025. Replace contact details before App Store / Play review if needed.

Who we are

LocalFocus.news (“LocalFocus”, “we”, “us”) provides community news websites and a companion mobile reader app. Contact: [email protected] (placeholder — Glen, set a real inbox before store submission).

What we collect

  • Account data — if you register on the website: name, email, optional phone, and community membership.
  • Content you submit — articles, letters, events, and similar contributions you choose to post.
  • Mobile push tokens — when you allow notifications in the LocalFocus reader app, we store an Expo push token and platform (iOS/Android) scoped to the community you follow, so we can notify you when new articles are published.
  • Technical logs — standard server logs (IP, user agent, timestamps) for security and reliability.

How we use information

  • Operate community sites and the reader app.
  • Send optional push notifications about new published articles for communities you opted into.
  • Prevent abuse, debug outages, and meet legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use push tokens for advertising.

Sharing

Push delivery uses Expo’s push service (and, under the hood, Apple Push Notification service / Firebase Cloud Messaging). Payment processors (e.g. Stripe) receive only what is needed for wallet deposits when you use paid website features. We may disclose information if required by law.

Retention

Account and content data are kept while your account or community content remains active. Push tokens are deactivated when you revoke notification permission or unregister; inactive tokens may be removed periodically.

Your choices

  • Decline or revoke notification permission in device Settings at any time.
  • Request account or data deletion by emailing the contact above.

Children

LocalFocus is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this page. Continued use after changes means you accept the revised policy.
